Yes they can. Consulting family members is a courtesy.
Consider getting with the DA and finding out WHY they accepted the plea, you might be surprised at what they say.
Eyewitness and victim testimony is not the greatest in the world.
Remember, it’s the DA’s responsibility to make sure he can convince 12 people beyond a reasonable doubt, not just you.
What Michael H said. Basically, a DA has very broad powers and very wide discretion when it come to who he chooses to indict or not.
I’m not saying whether he’s right or wrong in this particular case. But a DA considers a lot of factors that are not clear to the public.
Remember all the things we wanted? Now all our memories — they’re haunted. We were always meant to say, “goodbye.” Even with our fists held high, it never would’ve worked out right: we were never meant for do or die. I didn’t want us to burn out, I didn’t come here to hold you — now I can’t stop.
I want you to know that it doesn’t matter where we take this road, someone’s gotta go. And I want you to know you couldn’t have loved me better, but I want you to move on. So I’m already gone.
